The gap
Why flashcards don’t get you to fluent listening
You can know a thousand words and still be lost the moment a Thai friend starts talking. That’s not a vocabulary problem. It’s a listening problem.
Real speech is fast
Thai people don’t pause between words. Sentences run together, syllables get swallowed, and tones shift in the flow. A word you know on a flashcard can be unrecognisable at full speed.
Nobody talks like a textbook
Particles like นะ (ná), เลย (loei) and อ่ะ (à), filler, slang and half-finished sentences carry most of the meaning in a real conversation. Word lists leave them out.
Reading isn’t hearing
Most apps train your eyes. Understanding a conversation is a different skill, and the only way to build it is hours of listening to Thai you can almost follow.
How it works
Listen a lot. Start slow. Speed up.
- 01
New episodes every week
Two hosts chat about everyday life in Bangkok: food, travel, work, apps. Each episode is written for beginner, intermediate or advanced listeners.
- 02
Any speed you need
Start at 0.75× until the words separate, then work up to 1.25×. Skip back ten seconds, or tap any line to hear it again.
- 03
A transcript that follows along
Every line in Thai with English underneath, highlighted as it’s spoken. Hide the English to test yourself and reveal a line only when you’re stuck.
- 04
Keep the words you hear
Each episode comes with its vocab. Review it in short daily sessions with spaced repetition, and save your own words with a note on where you heard them.
Difficulty
Three levels. Move up when you’re ready.
Beginner
Short, simple sentences and polite everyday Thai. Hosts repeat and rephrase key words, and every line has romanization.
Intermediate
Natural conversation at a relaxed pace, with common expressions, a little slang and the particles real people use.
Advanced
Full-speed banter, idioms and opinions. The way friends actually talk over late-night khao tom.

Should you learn to read Thai if you only want to speak it?
